What happens to your data when you use QR From Link — written to be read, not to be skimmed past.

Last updated:

In short

  • What you encode stays on your device. Links, Wi-Fi details, text, email addresses, phone numbers, crypto addresses and logos are turned into a QR code inside your browser. They are never sent to us or to anyone else.
  • If you accept, we count visits with Google Analytics. It records which pages are viewed and general information about the device, not what you type into the generator.
  • Cloudflare serves the site. Like any web host, it handles your IP address to deliver the pages.
  • There are no accounts, no forms and no newsletter, and we do not sell personal data.

What you put into the generator

The QR code generator runs entirely in your browser. Whatever you enter — a link, a Wi-Fi network name and password, text, an email address, a phone number, an SMS, or a crypto payment address — is encoded on your device. It is not uploaded, stored, logged or measured, and Google Analytics does not receive it.

If you add a logo, the image file is read locally by your browser to draw it into the code. It is never uploaded. The PNG or SVG you download is created on your device as well.

You can check this yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, go to the Network tab and generate a code. No request carries what you entered. The private QR code generator page explains how it works.

Google Analytics

To understand how many people visit the site and which pages are useful, qrfromlink.com uses Google Analytics 4, a service provided by Google. When you load a page, Google Analytics collects:

  • the page you visited and the page that linked you here (the referrer);
  • your approximate location (country and city), which Google derives from your IP address — Google Analytics 4 does not store the IP address itself;
  • your device type, operating system, browser, language and screen size;
  • how long you stayed and which pages you viewed during the visit.

Google Analytics only sets cookies (see the table below) if you accept them in the cookie notice. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page; withdrawing it also deletes the Google Analytics cookies. Until you accept, or if you reject, no Analytics cookies are set: Google may still receive a signal that a page was viewed, without cookies or identifiers, which it uses only to estimate visits in aggregate. We use this information only in aggregate, to improve the site.

Besides rejecting in the cookie notice, you can block cookies for this site in your browser, use a content blocker, or install Google’s opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. The generator works exactly the same either way. Google’s own privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.

Hosting

The site is served by Cloudflare. As with any website, delivering a page requires your browser to connect to Cloudflare’s servers, which process technical data such as your IP address, the page requested and your browser’s user agent in order to deliver the page and protect the site from abuse. Cloudflare’s privacy policy is at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

Advertising

The site does not show advertising at the moment. If that changes, this policy will be updated before any ads appear, to say which provider serves them and which cookies it uses.

Your rights

Depending on where you live — for example under the GDPR in the European Union and the United Kingdom, or under state laws in the United States — you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data about you, to object to or restrict its processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority.

We do not hold any account or profile about you. The only personal data involved is the pseudonymous analytics data held by Google Analytics. To exercise a right, get in touch using the contact details below and we will help.

Children

The site is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal data from them.

Changes to this policy

If what the site does with data changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change with it.
